Garrison Visioning Committee to Present Final Conceptual Landscape Designs

Residents of Garrison will have the opportunity to view the final conceptual landscape designs created through the Community Visioning Program, in which Garrison has been a participant since February. On Monday, August 29th, from 5pm to 7pm, Meg Flenker from Flenker Land Architecture Consultants, Trees Forever Field Coordinator Patty Reisinger, and members of the Garrison Community Visioning Committee will be available to answer questions regarding these designs.

Interactive traveling display to focus on Iowa Ag; opens in Vinton Aug. 26

The Benton County Historical Society is hosting a traveling, interactive exhibit from August 26-Sept.6 that is free and open to the public (donations of non-perishable items for the Mobile Food Pantry and Benton County Food Pantry will be accepted). The exhibit “It Takes An Iowan” will be located at the Vinton Depot Railroad Museum at 612 Second Avenue, and focuses on Iowans as leaders in the ongoing endeavor of providing food for the nation and the world.

Cub Scouts Pack 47 sets recruiting night for Sept. 8

Cub Scout Pack 47 in Vinton is holding their Fall Scouting Night on September 8th @ 6:00 pm at Riverside Park (round shelter).  Join us for fun activities for boys and information about Scouting for parents.  This is for boys in Kindergarten - 5th grade.  Can't make it but would like more information, please contact Melvin Hurst woodbadgec1005@gmail.

Just eight days from now, cars will be rolling into town for some great outside shopping and street vending, complimented by live music and inflatables downtown for BOOMFEST…locals and visitors alike will be able to experience the wares of vendors from all around eastern IA, all the while being reminded by a certain “Boom Clock” of what is in store for Saturday night! Center Point Library plans Minions party, Sept. 24

Farm Safety Day set for Sept. 17; pre-registration under way for free event

A safety day for any Benton County student in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade is being planned for Saturday, September 17, 2016. The event will run from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at the Benton County Fairgrounds in Vinton. The Benton County Extension Service in conjunction with Progressive Agriculture, Benton County Farm Bureau, Vinton-Shellsburg FFA, Belle Plaine FFA, Benton Community FFA, Unity Point Clinic (Vinton & Shellsburg Family Practice), and Benton County beef, pork and dairy commodity groups are sponsoring the event.

Annual Special Olympics Benefit Ride set for Saturday

The 7th Annual Vinton-Shellsburg United (VSU) Special Olympics Benefit Ride is set for Saturday, Aug. 20, in Vinton.
